Well,  Lurestreet have come up with  something for the younger fisho and it will probably be taken up by our more seasoned anglers as well. The little gadget in question is the Smartspool. 

I was chatting to a young guy not so long ago, and he had shown a bit of an interest in our wonderful sport and had been given a fishing reel. He had been explaining to me how he had been really keen to use the reel, but was complaining how hard it was to fill with line. After a little explanation he had told me that he had actually wound the line onto the reel by hand. Now, we all do things the hard way at times, usually through lack of knowledge, and this young fellow had done just that. As fishermen who have been around for a while it is very easy to forget to mention something that we would consider 'everyday knowledge' and fail to mention to our new friend how to perform this rather mundane and uninteresting task. 

The Smartspool, whilst it falls into the gadget category, takes the guesswork and difficulty out of the job of spooling a spinning or Baitcast reel with line. I know some members of Palmfishing have youngsters who love to fish and this little tool will certainly make there lives a little easier. The Smartspool attaches to the rod, as you can see in the diagram, giving both hands free for the job of winding the line and holding the rod. line can be tensioned using the tension screw. It should be noted the Smartspool is used for standard quarter pound spools. 

The Smartspool fits a variety of rods as the spooler can be placed on the rod where the Diameter of the rod suits the device. 

A great feature of the Smartspool is that, as the line comes of the spool sideways it eliminates line twist and makes casting easier for the yougsters making the exercise of fishing a whole lot more fun for them. Kids are frustrated by frustrations (aren't we all) I have a funny feeling some big kids will find a use for this.
