  • Pro Reports - Alpine Angler Snowy Mountains Report 8th October 2007

The latest report from the Snowy Mountains Region has been published by the team at the Alpine Angler

We have had some excellent reports this week. The wind was very trying over the last week, but many anglers still persevered and most caught fish. Hopefully with improved conditions the fishing will improve too...

    Fly Fishing
Rivers - We have had reports of excellent numbers of Rainbows in the lower Eucumbene which have been biting readily and although some are a little small still provide a ton of fun...
Lake Eucumbene - Fly reports from Eucumbene suggest not a lot of change but the fishing has continued to improve, and while not all the fish are huge there have been some better Browns lurking around...
Lake Tantagara - There have been good numbers of fish on the chew in Tantangara and most of these have been surface feeders. A must look at spot after you fish the rivers in the morning...
Lake Jindabyne - Fishing has been great in Jindabyne with both Polaroiding and blind searching taking some fish...

Trolling and Spinning Lake Eucumbene - With the rising water launching will become progressively easier. The banks are hard so the only thing to be careful of is that there is enough water under the motor when launching...
Lake Jindabyne - With the rising levels the weed beds are the place to troll. Being in close is the key as is an early start. If you really want to catch a fish being on the water as the light starts to improve is essential...

    Bait Fishing
Bait fishing has been absolutely outstanding in Eucumbene with good Browns and Rainbows comiong in from the Old Adaminaby area. Powerbait and Scrubworms have been the best baits. Stimulate has been an excellent addition to Scrubworms and those anglers using it have reported a jump in their catch rates...

  • Pro Reports - Angling Expeditions Victorian Alpine Report 20 Sep 2007

After a brilliant start to the trout fishing season anglers have found things slowing up a little over the past days, possibly due to fast changing weather conditions...

Rocky Valley Reservoir and Pretty Valley Reservoir at Falls Creek are at full capacity and trout are rising during the very late afternoon...

Lake Guy at Bogong Alpine Village is perfect for trolling right now...

The Mt Beauty pondage is full and anglers report catching rainbow trout to 800 grams on worms under a bubble float and metal lures during the day...

The west Kiewa River is running fast and deep and fishing moderately well...

The Kiewa River is running at almost full capacity and anglers are reporting catching trout like they used to, before the big drought took effect...

The upper Mitta Mitta River around Anglers Rest is flowing nicely and producing brown trout to around a kilogram on average...

The lower Mitta Mitta River from Mitta Mitta is flowing at 200 megalites and is a bit muddy this week...

Lake Dartmouth is holding steady at around 14% capacity with good stocks of wild browns on hand to delight any angler's weekend of effort

  • Pro Reports - Mudgee Region Report September 2007

Oil your reels, clean the boat, dig up some worms 'cause spring is here! The weather is warming up, the fish are coming onto the bite...

Windamere Dam - It was a glorious Spring Day on Sunday for Round 3 of the Fish N Trips Fishing Club and Challenge. The water at the dam was clear with visibility of a metre or so and no trace of algae, the wind was pretty good for most of the day only picking up around lunch time but not making the fishing too uncomfortable.

Middle Cudgegong - Trout Season Opening - The start of the NSW General Trout Streams fishing season is midnight Friday night. This will affect the Cudgegong River between the weir at Lawson Park and Windamere Dam wall as it will now be open to fishing. It has been closed to all fishing since the long weekend in June...

Burrendong Dam - Many reports have been coming out of Burrendong Dam of really hot fishing from the Wellington side and a trip we took out there over the weekend only confirmed the reports...

    Other
The Gillham boys Harry and George accompanied their father Rob and Grandfater Malcom Roth on their first ever western water fishing trip. The boys fished really well with Harry catching a total of 11 fish and George 11.5.
Mud Spin Lures - Young local angler and entrepreneur Nathan Innes has launched his range of Mud Spin Lures consisting of Traditional Spinners and Spinnerbaits.
Catties in Western waters - As part of the new fishing rules it is now prohibited to take Catfish both freshwater and eel-tailed from western flowing rivers and unlisted western dams.

Yabby traps rules - A rule that a lot of people also may not realize is that it is illegal to use yabby traps in the rivers around our region. We are in the declared platypus waters and therefore you cannot use yabby traps in rivers in this area.

  • Pro Reports - Alpine Angler Snowy Mountains Fishing Report 31/07/2007

The fishing over the weekend was generally quite good. The Soft plastic spinning in Eucumbene continues to be a great method of catching some big numbers of fish and the polaroiding and bait fishing in Jindabyne has been good too.

    Fly Fishing
Rivers - ALL CLOSED TILL 29TH SEPTEMBER
Lake Eucumbene - Polaroidng has been quite good around the Dam wall with some very big fish being spotted cruising in close. There are not huge numbers and the steep banks can be a challenge but the chance of hooking a monster is high...
Lake Tantagara - No reports from Tantangara.
Lake Jindabyne - No reports from the weekend but some great fishing will ensue as more fish drop out of the river and into the lake. There have been a number of Browns caught in recent times that have not run to spawn...

Trolling and Spinning Lake Eucumbene - Old Adaminaby's ramp is still very good and is suitable for boats up to the 5 and a bit metre mark. A 4WD is a definite advantage with the larger boats as the water is a little shallow so being able to drive out into the water can be necessary...
Lake Jindabyne - There have been some real quality fish from Jindabyne this week. Early and late has been the best with all methods, flat line, lead core, and downrigging producing fish...
Blowering - We don't tend to get many reports from Blowering but this one was emailed to me by Brett Wood and just shows that there is some great fishing to be had there...

    Bait Fishing
Bait fishing has been excellent with some good catches of mostly Rainbows in Jindabyne, and Eucumbene. Powerbait and Scrubworms have been the best baits...

  • Pro Reports - Mudgee Region Report July 2007

Burrendong Dam - Carp and Catties continue to bite well at Burrendong. If you want to get onto a couple, head to the Mudgee end and travel up over the hill past the Managers House...

Upper Cudgegong / Rylstone Weir / Dunn's Swamp - All fairly quite except for the odd cattie.

Middle Cudgegong - Still closed to all fishing until 29th September.

Lower Cudgegong - The Lower Cudgegong has been the pick of the spots this month and it will be next month as it has really started to fire in the colder months...

Other - Peter Reilly tells me that as soon as his redfin look-alike soft plastic lure hit the water out at Louth last week he was into the golden perch...
