Monthly Fish Profile

 Mangrove Jack

[Lutjanus argentimaculatus]

This Pelagic fish inhabits estuaries and rivers both salt and fresh water, moving to off
shore reef and can grow to over one metre. This one was caught on the Great Barrier
Reef and was 550mm long. I used to call these Red Bream and fish for them with
my Pop with live mullet. I have fond memories of catching these beauties.

A fantastic table fish and can be found along the coastal waters of North Western
Australia through Torres Strait and into Queensland. Along the mainland foreshores and
the coastal rivers of Queensland right down as far as northern New South Wales.

Mangrove Jack can grow to 16kg (36lb) and can be caught with both surface
(Buzzmasters) and deep diving lures. Try using cut baits of Mullet and Squid.

Steve and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy 2009.

If you are a first time visitor to the site, welcome or if you are a regular, welcome back.

Dreamfish is a totally Australian owned and operated business. We are just average
blokes who absolutely love fishing and want to share our passion with you. This website
will provide all range of anglers information on Australian bass, Estuary Perch, Bream,
Flathead, Yellowbelly, and all sorts of Australian fish.

Steve Prott, who writes for New South Wales Fishing Monthly (Sydney West), and the
rest of the team will be writing articles from fishing expeditions and outings. Want to
know more about "How to catch Fish", feel free to explore the articles section, as we
show you what techniques have worked for us and what tackle to use.

The Gallery is one of our favourite places to visit. Here you can find "Fish Profiles"
and many other sections including "Bait and other small aquatic life" that I am sure
you will enjoy looking at. Have a browse through the Dreamfish site and add it to
your favourite bookmarks, and be sure to visit our site regularly for updates on
articles and photos that have been taken.

"Buzzmaster" Buzzbaits.

We offer a wide range of colours and blade types in the Buzzmasters, which include the The Original Buzzmaster with two bladed alloy blade, and the The Turbo which is a counter rotating alloy blade with a high impact four bladed plastic blade in the middle for maximum disturbance. In the Buzzmasters, the sizes range from 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 ounce weights. In the 1/8 ounce Buzzmasters you have the four bladed high impact plastic blade for super slow surface presentations. Apart from the wide variety of skirt colours, the jigs come in red, black, white and green.

The Stand Up Jigs come in 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4 ounce weights offering you a wide range of weights for all fishing situations. These can be fished with your favourite plastic and cover fishing the rivers, dams and estuaries.

Buzzmasters have accounted for a range of different freshwater and saltwater species and the list is growing all the time. Have a browse in the Gallery and see just what species have been caught on these great lures.

Please browse the "Dreamfish Shop" so you can purchase these lures and have a look
at the "Dreamfish Products Page" for how to use them.

The team at Dreamfish embraces “Catch and Release”; like so many other fishos
we enjoy a good feed of fish but we firmly believe in the philosophy of limit your
catch, don’t catch your limit. We care about the environment, as I’m sure you do
and want to have our wonderful waterways for years to come for our kids to enjoy.

Remember, when you’re out there:

Dream it, See it, Catch it.

Happy Fishing!
