Blues abound at Matava PDF Print E-mail

We have a hot blue marlin bite at the moment but we are being much more successful getting them on skip baits rather than lures. Boated this one on a skipjack skipbait with circle hook. Unfortunately the circle hook lodged deep inside and after an hour long fight she came up totally knackered and we couldn't revive her. Shame but she went 420lbs so a nice fish all the same.

(Palmfishing note. Matava has a Catch and Release policy, occasionally death occurs in all types of fishing. The boys at Matava do their very best to catch and conserve and as such are fully endorsed by Palmfishing. This note had to be added after Naive Remarks by a guest of Palmfishing,)

Had an enormous blue come in the other day and eat the short rigger lure, cross over and then eat the long rigger lure and charge off. Then all went earily quiet (except for two howling Penn 80s and suddenly the marlin erupted from the sea only about 40 yards behind the boat. Went vertically side on to us, clean out of the water. Im no expert at judging blues weights, but this fish would have gone 600lbs easy and probably much more. We were all so surprised we just stood there gawping. She landed in a huge crash and threw both hooks. Thats blue marlin fishing for you.
Big Blue
Sad loss, but it happens.
